Advance technology of Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) helps 55-year-old Mrs. Seema Kumar (Name changed) undergo painless and non-invasive procedure successfully, who was diagnosed with multiple lungs & skeletal metastasis cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy.

Mrs. Seema Kumar was diagnosed with breast cancer and was treated in the year 2008 successfully. But again after eight years during a regular check-up, We diagnosed her with recurrence metastasis cancer on PET scan. For which she was undergoing treatment with standard chemotherapy.

She was very bold and confident of getting fit and do her routine work. She was referred to Dr. Karan Chanchlani at Once-life Cancer Centre.

The patient came to us with severe pain in the spine due to which she was unable to perform her regular activities. After seeing the diagnostic report MRI &PET scan it was confirmed to have a painful lesion in the pedicle and transverse process D9. All other lesions of metastases had resolved. Hence we decided to treat with Advance technology of Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).” cranial or spinal lesion using a combination of stereotactic apparatus and narrow multiple beams delivered through multiple coplanar/noncoplanar isocentric arcs of photons or radiations. This technique involves 3D imaging to localize the lesion and accurately deliver treatment
that concentrates the dose in the target volume and spares as much as possible the normal brain. It is not referred to as a surgery; it does not involve incision or blood, it is painless and non -invasive procedure. However, just like surgery, it is a one-time procedure and the entire prescribed radiation dose is delivered in a single radiation “shot”. A ray is focused on the volume of the tumor sparing the other surrounding normal parts. We are able to treat the tumor without affecting the other normal tissues and blood vessels of the brain by using newer technology like radiosurgery. Though, the only limitation is the size of the tumor which should be less than 3 cms. This treatment is a day care procedure and the entire dose is calculated and delivered in minutes. We use very high-end stereotactic radiosurgery machine, which is fast, safe and precise.

Radiation oncology has undergone immense advances. It’s my extreme pleasure to announce that we did our first Stereotactic Radiosurgery(SRS) to a Spinal Met. Our focus is towards fighting the disease the right way and improving patient’s quality of life.
